Fourth of July

Rock the red, white and blue this Fourth of July with family and friends and pay tribute to America with an old fashioned day of fun.  Bring your party back to basics and discover how easy it is for you and how much fun it is for your guests.

The Basic Rules:

Respect LIFE: Spend the day with family and friends and invite those you love to celebrate the Fourth of July.

Celebrate LIBERTY: Send gratitude to our troops with a few fun activities.

In the PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS, prepare food ahead of time and enjoy your own party.

Here are a few tips for making it happen.

  • Start with a make ahead menu that will allow you to prepare food before guests arrive.  Pulled Pork is a great alternative to hamburgers and hot dogs.  It can be made the day before guests arrive in a slow cooker, which means you don’t need to spend hours in the kitchen (recipe for Lazy Man’s Barbecue Pork Sandwiches in Eguide).  This recipe is a real crowd pleaser, plus it gets you away from the hot grill!
  • Keep appetizers simple. Slice up watermelon, make corn bread poppers the day before and put out red, white and blue tortilla chips with salsa.  These keep your guests satisfied and won’t spoil in the sun.
  • Make sure you have some patriotic music on hand and let the kids have a parade. Put out paper, pencils and crayons at the kids table and let them write letters to thank our soldiers overseas (instructions for sending in Eguide).  It’s important to remember why we celebrate and keeping the kids busy, lets the adults enjoy their day too.
  • Happy Birthday America Cupcakes and an Old Fashion Penny Candy Bar is a great way to treat your guests to something special!  You will be surprised how much the adults love this too.  Look for bite-size candy and buy lots to fill jars of varying height.  Give everyone a small paper bag and let them pick their favorites.
