How To Host An Easy Beach Picnic Party With Mirassou Wine

Disclosure:  Party Bluprints has partnered with Mirassou Winery to bring unique and entertaining ideas to life.

Summer is in full swing (and p.s. halfway over) so make sure you are living this season to the fullest before it’s gone!

Pick a day to host your loved ones and make sure to put it on the calendar today.  Take advantage of the warm weather, and pack your party up for the beach, lake, river or a great green meadow.  The great outdoors is the perfect backdrop for seasonal entertaining and it’s easy to make it festive with a few personalized touches.  Keep it simple and feel how special it is to share time with the people in your life.  Skip activities that involve waiting on line, making reservations, your kitchen, and put away technology for the day.  Indulge yourself, you deserve it!

We decided to enjoy our special day at the beach. Even though we both thoroughly enjoy entertaining at home, taking the party on the road was a nice change of pace.  We packed up a cooler with our favorite treats and took our husbands to the beach.  The warm sun and sand and the cool ocean breeze and waves provided a very relaxing setting for our picnic. We enjoyed some much needed down time and share lots of laughs!

With sincere hopes that you will take our lead and enjoy a day of your own, we wanted to share our Beach Picnic menu and tips for hosting:

Hosting Tips for Beach Picnic

  • Keep your beach picnic simple and special.
  • Bring along sunscreen, bug spray and moist toilettes.
  • Pack “snack” food that is bite-size and easy to eat.
  • Load a cooler with plenty of ice so food stays fresh and your wine stays cold.
  • Pack a few beach or sand chairs if you have the room.
  • Choose a food that packs up easy and transports well – avoid dairy based dips and sauces.
  • Pack a screw top wine, such as Mirassou Pinot Grigio, which is the perfect solution for occasions when you want to skip the hassle of bringing a corkscrew. Plus, the Mirassou sun is perfect for enjoying while out in the sun!
  • Choose stemless acrylic wine glasses so they won’t spill on your blanket or break if they drop.
  • Don’t forget a garbage bag, so you can dispose of items immediately to avoid unwanted visitors at your picnic.
  • Music is a must – ukele or a radio works.
  • If your picnic will extend past sunset, pack some lighting such as a lantern with candle and a few extra blankets.
  • Flowers are an easy way to add a pop of color to your picnic and make it feel even more special.

We wanted our beach party menu to be a casual wine and food pairing that we could take time to enjoy all day.  We selected Mirassou Pinot Grigio because of its crisp, refreshing, fruit-focused taste, perfect for sipping at the beach.  The Pinot Grigio also paired perfectly with the cheese, seafood and spicier menu we selected; and of course the Mirassou Sun on the bottle’s label looked so pretty!

  • ITALIAN-STYLE BEACH ANTIPASTA: Fresh Cherry Tomatoes and Bocconcini drizzled with Extra Virgin Olive Oil, coarse salt and pepper and a fresh Green Bean Salad {RECIPE > } .  We packed ours in a decorative plastic container with a sealable lid for easy transport and serving (remember to pack mini bamboo picks for easy eating.)
  • SIMPLE SHRIMP CEVICHE:  {RECIPE > } This dish is so chock-full of bites of freshness, it just says “summer”.  We eat it faster than we can make it.  Keep this packed on ice until ready to serve.  To enjoy picnic-style, serve in small cups with tortilla chips and spoons, so you don’t miss a drop.
  • GRILLED CHICKEN:  Sliced Grilled Chicken with Italian Bread, Tomato and Lettuce.  Grill the day before the picnic and refrigerate { see our tips for grilling the juiciest chicken> }.  Slice and pack in airtight container and keep on ice in the cooler.  Serve with fresh thinly sliced Italian bread, lettuce, tomato and lemon wedge instead of mayonnaise.
  • BEACH TREATS: Spicy Mixed Nuts or Corn Nuts, Sliced Fresh Bread, Parmesan Cheese Nuggets, Fresh Fruit, Salt Water Taffy and Flip Flop Sugar Cookies.

Please remember to drink and serve responsibly.
