IKEA has just opened their new temporary space, #IKEAtemporary in Milan for the World Expo. It was created to explore some of the questions foodies like us have about how we will be cooking 25 years from now. What kind of kitchens will we have in our homes, how will we enjoy and serve the food we make? At the Party Bluprints Blog, we’re full of questions like these about life at home – especially life in and around the kitchen. So we were especially intrigued to learn more about #IKEAtemporary.
Our 3 Wishes For The Kitchen Of The Future:
- An interactive kitchen work surface that would calorie count, suggest recipes and help us create new ones!
- Cook tops that can sense when the water boils.
- An oven that knows how long to cook a roast and when it is done.
The 2025 Concept kitchen, was created by students at Lund University and Eindhoven University of Technology in Sweden. It’s all about exploring how technology could remove some of the barriers that keep us from enjoying everyday cooking – with things like self-refrigerating containers and a worktop that gives you recipe suggestions based on the food you put on top of it. Seriously! How amazing would that be? It appears that some of our wishes will be granted!
And there’s IKEA HACKA, a kitchen that that can be customized for you and your life. The simple outdoor kitchen makes it possible to combine IKEA products with other things you have at home to create one that’s totally unique, just like you!
For the next six months, IKEA has schedule events, workshops, talks and cook alongs at the space to continue the discussion and exploration of a variety kitchen related topics.
