Sweet Tea Vodka – Friday’s Featured Cocktail

Repost from August 13, 2009

2009 International Wine and Sprits Competition Silver Medal winner, Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka, USA [35%] $18.

Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka is the Hip Sip of the summer! As if I needed another reason to love South Carolina (Hilton Head Island is one of my favorite places!), I was recently introduced to South Carolina’s homemade Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka by my also very hip friends, Mark and Grace.

Since its released in April 2008, “Sweet Tea” has become all the rage and is now distributed in all 50 states. Firefly has created a line of 6 flavored vodkas, the most popular of which is the Sweet Tea. It’s made with local American tea and Louisiana sugar. The tea is grown in South Carolina on a Wadmalaw Island, tea plantation, the only tea grown in America. The bottle should come with a warning label!  The Sweet Tea Elixir tastes exactly like unsweetened ice tea and not an alcoholic beverage – no kidding your kiddies could down this and never know!

How to drink Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka
To enjoy Firefly Sweet Tea mix equal parts sweet tea vodka and filtered water. Add lemon juice or a lemon wedge. The name is a bit deceiving since this wonderful concoction is not sweet and if you like your tea this way you may need to add some simple syrup. My preference is without and with plenty of fresh lemon juice.
