The recipe comes from the National Pork Board’s database of over 1,600 recipes. I spoke to Karma, Pork
Information Specialist for the Board and this is her favorite easy BBQ Pork recipe. It’s one of mine now too!
Lazy Man’s Barbecue Pork Sandwiches
4-5 pound boneless pork butt (shoulder)
1 14 1/2-oz can beef broth
1/3 cup hot pepper sauce
1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
Sauce:
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup molasses
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup yellow mustard
2 tablespoons hot pepper sauce
10-12 sandwich buns
Cooking Directions
Place pork butt in bottom of large slow cooker. Combine broth, hot pepper sauce and Worcestershire sauce, and pour over pork. Cover and cook on high setting for 5 hours (or 8-10 hours on low setting) until pork is very tender. Meanwhile, for sauce, combine all ingredients in large saucepan; set aside.
Place pork on cutting board; reserve 1/2 cup cooking liquid. Coarsely chop pork; combine with reserved cooking liquid and sauce in saucepan; heat over medium heat until warm. Spoon pork onto sandwich buns to serve.
Serves 10-12
Serving Suggestions
Make extra sauce to serve on the side or for ribs and chops. Serve with salad, corn bread or any other family picnic favorites. It’s also great topped with coleslaw (the kind with no mayo).

You know, when I was young, there used to be a BBQ wagon that would set up and sell at the Humpty Dumpty across the street from us. They sold Hill Billy BBQ Sauce, made here in Oklahoma but no longer. They would make these awesome sandwiches for like 5 for $1.00 and it would be our dinner. My mother perfected this little trick of making them. I don’t know if she asked or created but here goes…Canned Corned Beef – put in saucepan and break up. Add any kind of BBQ sauce (I prefer sweet) and heat. You don’t want it too juicy because you need to put on a hamburger bun. Serve with chips and good pickle…yum.
Carla – so awesome of you to share that! I love the “oldies but goodies” recipes
These are not barbecue pork sandwiches. They are pork sandwiches with bbq sauce. If there is a crock pot or oven involved it’s not BBQ!
BBQ Grail – Sounds like you have a point you should take it up with the Pork Board!
these sound and look delicious, and I am sure that I’ll try them, but I’m gonna have to go with BBQ Grail… unless there’s flame and /or smoke involved, it ain’t BBQ. now where’s that pork board email address?
hmmm… I bet his would be delish with a nice thick stout!
shaniber go for it but be sweet to Karma the pork board information specialist I spoke to, she is sweet and very knowledgeable! http://theotherwhitemeat.com/aspx/contact_us/
I sent a very nice email informing her of the error of her ways, and complimenting the site on all of the delicious looking recipes.
Very Good! Let’s see if they change the name to Crockpot Pork with BBQ Sauce Sandwiches
Yum! Can’t Wait to try it. Thank you :<)
Sometimes it’s really that simple, isn’t it? I feel a little stupid for not thinking of this myself/earlier, though.
I usually make a massive pot of chili for Superbowl, but this sounds delicious! BBQ pork or pork with bbq sauce, if it has the word ‘bbq’, I’m making it!
well I think I am going to definitely try the Lazy Man’s BBQ Pork Sandwiches!!! Thanks again for a wonderful recipe! Your blog again is making my home a happy one!
Sounds great. I think the “BBQ” terms have to with locale….us Minnesotan’s don’t have the option (insert word “privilege” here) of using outdoor BBQ (which you can insert “grill”…we use the term grill in MN) during said Superbowl date, as it usually arrives on -30 below with a -55 windchill. BBQ in a crockpot is perfect for us. Now, where’s the hotdish to go with it (and I don’t mean no stink’in “casserole”
oh darn, did I mention Minnesota IS going to the Superbowl this year? Yep. Go Vikings, while I eat my BBQ
Can you tell me if this is hot. I have a few people coming that don’t like “hot” foods.
This look really good!
Please let me know!
Thanks!
I would not call this a hot dish. BBQ flavor with some kick, but not like hot wings. To be safe leave out the hot sauce or cut it in half.
Confessions Mom….I hope you enjoy watching bart favre this superbowl sunday!
HAHAHA!
This BBQ Pulled pork is delicious and I will freeze any leftovers. Not that there will be any.
