A Winner Every Time!
If you’ve never tried Pull Apart Bread, now is the time. It’s a simple way to make plain bread special, and one that will WOW guests of every age. We love the way this bread serves up bite-sized pieces that are cheesy and delicious – make sure to serve it hot from the oven. The cheese cools quickly, but that’s rarely an issue as it disappears quickly. Pull Apart Bread is the perfect appetizer for game day, family dinners and anytime you want to serve some lovin’ from the oven!
- 1 round loaf fresh bread
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup of pepperoni – chopped into small pieces
Start with a round loaf of fresh bread and a sharp serrated bread knife. Fresh bread with a crunchy crust is key to this appetizer’s goodness!
Rotate loaf 180 degrees so your first cut down the middle makes an “X” across previous slices. Continue slicing loaf as above in 1” slices being careful to not cut all the way through the loaf. You will see a checkerboard pattern appear. A partner who can carefully hold the bread together while you cut is very helpful.
Then slice the bread vertically, again keeping slices about 1″ apart. A partner that can hold the bread together while you cut is very helpful.
Carefully slip your hands under the loaf, and while supporting the bottom, allow the bread to open up. The result is what Elizabeth calls the “blooming onion effect.”
Pour 1/4 cup unsalted butter, that has been melted in the microwave, evenly into the slices of the bread loaf.
Gently stuff the pepperoni and mozzarella into the spaces between the bread slices.
Make sure to stuff evenly. If you can work with a partner, it makes stuffing easier, as one person can pull slices apart and the other can stuff.
Wrap the loaf tightly in foil and bake for 20 minutes in an oven that’s been preheated to 350 degrees F. Uncover the top and bake for another 10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the crust is crispy.
Serve immediately with hot marinara sauce and watch the smiles appear!
