The Americano signature cocktail for Memorial Day Festivities

Memorial Day Weekend provides three days and plenty of opportunity for hosting a patriotic celebration. The holiday is second only to 4th of July when it comes to BBQ’s and outdoor parties. If you’re hosting this year and looking to mix it up, consider offering a signature cocktail as an alternative or addition to beer and wine. The Americano cocktail is a good one to try – it lends itself to the theme of the day with its patriotic name, and dark red color. It also has a relatively low alcohol content, and many find the bitter citrus flavor of the Campari very refreshing on a hot day.

A little history from Wikepedia:  “The cocktail was first served in creator Gaspare Campari‘s bar, Caffè Campari, in the 1860s. It was originally known as the “Milano-Torino” because of its ingredients: Campari, the bitter liqueur, is from Milan (Milano) and Punt e Mes, the vermouth, is from Turin (Torino). It is popular belief that in the early 1900s, the Italians noticed a surge of Americans who enjoyed the cocktail. As a compliment to the Americans, the cocktail later became known as the “Americano”.
