Make Memories By Making Your Child’s Baby Book

Mother and Daughter Scrapbooking Session,  Jackie-O with Caroline.

My oldest daughter has a completed and thorough baby book detailing her every move up until age five. She keeps it in herroom and enjoys not only looking through it herself but also sharing it with friends.

My younger daughter has an old shoebox filled with random photos and pieces of scratch paper revealing her momentous milestones. Her baby book, pages blank, had been laying somewhere in her closet.

Hopefully I am not alone in my situation! I have always had the very best of intentions in pulling it all together, but my good intentions had not yet created a memorable baby book for my youngest daughter ( who was beginning to notice that this item was missing from her bookshelf).

Time just hadn’t yet been on my side for completing this project until my recent realization . . .

I love spending time with my daughters and summer is a time in our family, which allows for much togetherness. Rather than waiting for some productive alone time, I have been working on this project jointly with my daughter. We are filling the pages together as I share photos and tell stories exclusively about her. She is all aglow in hearing about herself and is a creative inspiration in laying out the pages of the book.

We visited our local craft store and bought some fancy yet inexpensive accessories for mounting photos along with a few colorful writing pens.

I know that the time we are spending together on this fun project is powerful and is really showing my four year old how special she is to our family.

Once again, I hope I am not the only mother out there who has been using an overstuffed old shoebox for a baby book, and perhaps my solution may work for you too. So dig out those memories, share those great stories, and enjoy spending time with your children any time of the year!

  1. Heather, I am also a mother o 2 daugthers 6 and 8 and I always have the idea of getting the photos out and making a scrap book with them all, but there never seems to be time. I am going to get the girls to make one for them selves which I will be doiung with them, as the time spent together will always be treasured.
I also plan on making a more formal one to give to them when they are 18 or 21. The more I think about it the more likely it will happen.
Perhaps you could leave me a comment also on one of my 2 blogs- I make beautiful handmade jewellery as well as write about tips for a contented life.
