Post By Elizabeth - In honor of all those who have and continue to bravely battle breast cancer  10% of the profits from sales of Plan to Party during October 24-31, 2010 will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®

Breast Cancer is a subject near and dear to our hearts at Partybluprints. It hit way too close to home January of 2009 when I was diagnosed. I won my fight against breast cancer and am proud to celebrate being cancer-free one year this week!

This is clearly one of those journeys that I didn’t choose to embark upon – you’re busy living your life, you get blindsided, and then you have to figure out how to get back to living your life. As I’ve been reminded recently, you never get back to your “normal life”, you have to find your new “normal”.

Although it has been a long road, I am beginning to develop some perspective on my “travels” thus far. Dawn and I were walking out of Fox News a few weeks ago after an interview promoting our new book, Plan to Party, when it hit me, “Dawn, do you realize a year ago I was in the last few weeks of 9 months of treatment?” I almost had to laugh – if you had told me a year ago that we would have published our book, be in the midst of a full-blown media campaign, and forged new and exciting business relationships, I would have either laughed in your face or cried at the cruelty of your suggestion.

The road back was slow and challenging, but with the support of my family and a very special friend and business partner who never stopped supporting me or believing in me, I was able to grasp an opportunity that would be a “game changer” and here we are published authors! So looking back on the past 18 months I have to note that while a wicked curve ball hit us, we won the series with a home run!

I share just a bit of my story in Plan to Party (see, “Our Wish”) as it obviously is not only part of our personal stories, but our Partybluprints story as well and omitting it would have left a gaping hole. Although it has been a painful “subject” to share, it’s important to acknowledge that it did happen, I survived it, and we are thriving. When trauma hits, two things can happen to “partnerships” – they grow stronger or they break. I have been blessed in so many ways and am so grateful for a loving family, an extraordinary business partner and cherished friend, a successful business, and the opportunity to inspire entertaining that nurtures relationships. I know I don’t have to tell you (but please indulge me) that it’s important to celebrate life as often as you can and inviting others into your home is a great way to do it!

“Well-hosted parties give people a chance to slow-down, reconnect, and create memories that add grace, beauty, and humor to our lives. A good party never ends. The memories last a lifetime – and longer.”

Elizabeth, first of all ” Congratulations” on a year free!
We never know what the future will bring us but challenges and happiness will be there. It is what we make of our time that matters. The present is here but for a moment. You are a bright and shinning inspiration. You just let your Light shine in all that you do.
That light shines through out yours and Dawn’s ” Plan to Party ” book.

  3. Elizabeth- you are an inspiration– not to mention gorgeous, and bubbling over with an energy that is infectious. I love the idea that events are all about slowing down and enjoying the precious moments we are afforded in this life– and if my events can be as spectacular as the ones you write about in your book- well- then I’ll be a very happy camper!

  4. Stacey, thank you so much for your beautiful comment! So happy you are inspired by our message.
    Cheers to Celebrating Life,
    Elizabeth

The quote you ended this blog post with is so profound and an inspiration to plan a party…seriously, with the holidays coming it’s always a great time to reconnect with family and friends. I look forward to reading your book!
